Verified Carbon Footprint Report
Our company undertakes the process of compliance with the obligations arising from the National Climate Law 4936/2022 Official Gazette 105/Α΄ 27.05.2022.
The obligation to submit a verified carbon footprint report applies to the following companies:
- Listed on the Stock Exchange
- Credit institutions (Banks)
- Insurance companies
- Investment companies
- Telecom Companies
- Water supply and sewerage companies
- Courier companies
- Electricity and natural gas supply companies
- Retail chains employing more than 500 workers
- Supply chain service companies
- Urban transport service companies
Obliged businesses must submit a Verified Carbon Footprint Report for 2022 emissions by 31/10/2023.
Compliance process:
- Assessment, quantification and calculation of the carbon footprint in accordance with the international standards ISO 14064-1:2018 and GHG Protocol - WORLD RESOURCES INSTITUTE for the reference year (2022)
- Drafting of a Carbon Footprint Report based on the requirements of the National Climate Law and ISO 14064-1:2018
- Validation of the methodology and calculation of the uncertainty of the method
- Verification of the Report by an accredited Verifier (independent certification body)
- Submission to the Natural Environment & Climate Change Agency (N.E.C.C.A.) by 31.10.2023
- Recalculation, re-verification, and resubmission of the report to N.E.C.C.A. on an annual basis
After the quantification and calculation of the carbon footprint, companies are required to adopt measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Municipalities
Municipal Emission Reduction Plans
Municipalities are also obliged to draw up Municipal Emission Reduction Plans (MERP), which will:
- include a detailed inventory of energy consumption and emissions for buildings, public facilities, especially for sports and culture, lighting of municipal streets and public spaces, as well as municipal water supply, drainage, irrigation facilities and municipal vehicles,
- take into account the Building Energy Performance Plan of paragraph 12 of article 7 of Law 4342/2015 (A΄ 143),
- set goals to reduce net emissions by 10% for the year 2025 and by 30% for the year 2030, compared to base year 2019, and
- they are reviewed at least every five years and are monitored annually with a Technical Progress Report, which is drawn up by its energy manager or by an external body.
From 01/01/2024, MERPs will be a prerequisite for the evaluation and financing of proposals in the field of energy saving and climate change.
MERPs as well as Technical Progress Reports are to be submitted to N.E.C.C.A.
